Milestones

From 2002 – 2007, our data preservation goal was to establish the infrastructure necessary to house KUPI datasets. To date, the datasets comprising the KUPI and associated catalogs encompass more than 24,500 cases and 366 variables, with several more KUPI datasets currently being prepared, far exceeding our initial goal. Furthermore, this infrastructure has become instrumental in supporting new research based on the re-use of data within the repository. The DRP is now able to accommodate specific data needs of other researchers in the KT field.

Specifically, we:

  • Hired a data manager/archivist

  • Completed DDI compliant metadata (information about the data, for example keywords, abstracts, collection methods, etc.) for 18 complete quantitative data sets, with others in various stages of completion (for a full description of DDI and metadata, see section IV below)

  • Resolved technical problems with electronic resources, including data upload problems and catalog hierarchy issues

  • Began accepting data from other researchers in the KT field

  • Established policies and procedures including:

    • Policies on dataset naming conventions

    • Keyword and controlled vocabulary guidelines

    • Freedom of information and protection of  privacy guidelines

    • Data access and accessioning guidelines
