Peter Norton

Dr. Peter Norton, MD, CCFP, FCFP is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Family Medicine, at the University of Calgary. He serves as a board member of the Health Quality Council of Alberta and is a member of the Institute Advisory Board of the Institute of Health Services and Policy Research at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.  He is a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Dr. Norton has an active interest in health services research with particular emphasis on patient safety, quality of care and knowledge transfer.  He was a principal investigator with Professor Ross Baker in the Canadian Adverse Event Study that was published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal on May 25, 2004.  He is a founding member of Safer Healthcare Now! and leads the Western Node of this Canadian campaign which is improving bedside care in Canada. Dr. Norton presents and teaches on quality improvement, patient safety and medical adverse events across Canada.
